Certainly benefits programs have been an area that has attracted employer scrutiny during recent economic difficulties; SHRM's recently released 2009 Employee Benefits Survey indicates that 60% of responding HR professionals report that the downturn has had an impact on their employers' benefits offerings.
One particular benefits area, however, is witnessing efforts to augment current offerings - and that is the area of preventive health and wellness benefits.
From the SHRM survey:
-
10% of respondents plan to implement rewards or bonuses for achieving or completing certain health and wellness goals/programs.
-
8% of respondents plan to add health/lifestyle coaching in the next 12 months.
-
7% of respondents have plans to launch preventive programs targeting employees with chronic health conditions.
-
5% of respondents plan to begin offering wellness resources and information.
-
5% of respondents have plans to offer weight loss programs.
